Fashion Design Schools – Learning in Fashion’s Capitals
Fashion is a culture, in many ways, with its own traditions and its own holy places. In Europe it is Paris and Milan; in the United States, two thirds of the fashion designers employed in the industry work in New York or California. Employers seek designers with a 2- or 4-year degree who are knowledgeable about textiles, fabrics, ornamentation, and fashion trends. Where better to learn these things than in the places where the trends are being established, the fabrics selected, the accessories designed? To some degree, the top fashion design schools are going to be located in or around these geographic centers of the industry.
