Continuing Care or Long Term Care is one of the fastest growing fields in the Health Care profession.  Our aging baby boomers are leading to a large increase in the Senior Population, which in turn is enjoying longer and longer life spans.

This trend is leading to programs for Long Term Care both at Nursing Facilities and In the Home.   Long Term Health Care Insurance is becoming a standard choice for today’s senior citizens.  The professions in this growing field include Home Care Aides, Home Care Health Supervisors, Licensed Practical Nurses and Long Term Care Nursing Specialists.

Long term care includes helping the patient with reduced abilities to perform daily functions; administering oral medication; keeping the room neat; checking vital signs and keeping records on his or her daily medical condition.  Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) can also administer injections, monitor catheters and change dressings.  RNs involved in Long Term Care often assume a supervisory role for the patient’s ongoing needs and directs staff accordingly.
