Mechanical Engineers are still nuts-and-bolts people. They design and develop tools, engines, machines, and mechanical devices of all types. They work on power-producing machines such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and turbines. Their expertise extends as well to machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment and machine tools – but the highest form of their profession is in designing material handling systems, industrial production equipment, and robots used in manufacturing.
Mechanical Engineers also design tools that other engineers need for their work. His is often a problem solving job rather than one of pure development. Engineers from many other disciplines will call in a Mechanical Engineer to help solve an operations issue on a project which involves very little that is mechanical.
