The Medical Administrative Assistant provides clerical support to the doctor and his clinical staff. The job includes obtaining Pre-authorization from Insurance Companies for procedures that the doctor is recommending for a patient. The Medical Admin will also direct patients on next steps following their visit with the doctor and the doctor’s prescribed actions.
A Medical Administrative Assistant handles typing and clerical duties and is often in large part responsible for keeping patient files under control during the day’s activities. Responsibilities may include scheduling appointments over the phone and scheduling patients for appointments with a specialist referral. Most medical secretaries need to be familiar with Insurance Rules, Billing Practices, and Hospital Procedures
